Keeping your dog calm at the front door, before the walk

Debbie Tayler

A hot spot for most dogs is the front door where the leashes are kept. I know at my house, grabbing the leash can cause frenzied excitement. Remember to take the time necessary to wait for your dog to be calm and submissive. I've had to wait as long as 25 minutes, so make sure you allow ample time to work through this issue.

You can help overcome this issue by frequently picking up the leash and not going anywhere, thereby desensitizing your dog to the leash.
